Greg's back...
Always count on Greg for some laughs and great camaraderie in the field. He was a lone shooter this trip so I put him with two nice guys. He first hunted with me about 8 years ago. Keep coming back and I'll keep putting you on scads of prairie dogs, Greg! Great shooting with a 551 yard kill with his 223.
Rain Days...
You may have seen that SD got hammered by rains last week. So much so, that almost all prairie dog hunters on public ground, and with other outfitters, furtively slunk home with long faces. For them, it was a total bust.
Because I have countless acres of prairie dogs SPREAD OUT OVER 100 MILES, I was able to sidestep rain and get my guys shooting. They experienced gobs of live target shooting opportunities in spite of the winds, rains, and cool temps. All while other prairie dog hunters were headed home pissy about the weather.
It's days like these where choosing Jim River Guide Service for your prairie dog hunt is the smartest thing you can do. JRGS deserves an A++ every time I pull this off. I am proud of that!
Father/son/grandfather Glenn, Brady, and Lee experienced fantastic shooting opportunities due to me compiling huge land deals over 27 years with lots of ranchers. Thank you to all the ranchers who work with me to provide me the BEST hunting.
"If you think you can't do it, you're probably right." Henry Ford
I've guided over 3,500 hunters in my 27 year career. It amazes me how some people adapt so quickly, overcome, and succeed-while others can flail, complain, and give up in one quick splat. If you are going to have great hunting success day-in and day-out, you need to be coachable and openminded to adapt. It is spectacular fun!
Lack of those fundamentals results in some people eventually shying away from hunting, choosing to get their "gunpowder fix" by shooting still targets. That's OK. But hunting offers hardy outdoorsmen a thrill that doesn't suit the fancy of paper and steel shooters.
Mother Nature can be a bugger. In all my days guiding, that's over 250 days a year, weather probably has drop-kicked more hunters in the nuts than anything else-sapping their enthusiasm, confidence, and mental mettle right from their soul. It can turn a normal person into a mouse. Being mentally prepared for the hunt is up to the hunter.
Physical prep is easy to achieve. Poor physical fitness has rarely caused my clients failure. On the other hand, mental toughness is hard to teach. It's why many fail, while others thrive. I've seen too many "ninety pound weaklings" and "worn out old men" succeed, even excel delightfully, while their ripped and boisterous counterparts fail miserably and quit with a whimper.
When you show up to hunt with me, I'll be ready to do my part. I've got plans A, B, C, and D in place to succeed. And I have the experience to lead you to succeed. Be mentally prepared for just about anything. Be ready for a fantastic trip. Be ready for fun.
